7 Easy Steps To Decorate Your Christmas Tree

Decorate Christmas Tree

Do you have sweet memories of you as a kid decorating your Christmas tree with your family?

Whether small or big, freshly cut, or even that very old and artificial Christmas Tree that you were very attached to (or still are!)

Well, now you are all grown up and in charge!

So, where do you begin? How do you decorate your Christmas Tree?

Let me share with you these easy 7 steps we have been following at home every year to end up with a nice looking tree!

#1 Get your tree

Maybe you have one already or you are planning to go on a timber adventure (which is a whole experience by itself!)

Consider the following tips:

  • Think about where in your house you can place your tree. This will give you an idea of the size you need to look up for.

  • Also, consider that you will keep this tree for many years. I bought mine at the grocery store, 10 years ago! It's a big 6ft tree and is still doing really well. I'm glad I picked a big one back then!

In this article you can find different trees and pieces to follow each step!

#2 Assemble and fluff the branches

Put the tree together, pull the branches down, and separate them, trying to fill all the gaps.

Then fluff each branch by moving around all the 'needles'.

#3 Light up your tree!

Some trees already come with lights, but if yours does not, I recommend a green wire Christmas light set.

Always start from the top to the bottom, around the tree, using the branches to attach the string of lights.

You can follow this recommendation in order to know how many sets of light you will need:

Height / Number of Lights Recommended

6'-7': 600-700

8'-9': 800-900

10'-12':1000-1200

#4 Add ribbons or garlands

The ribbons or garlands that you get can have different sizes or textures and usually should be related to your ornaments (but many times they are, since the colors white, red and golden are all around)

So it really won't be that hard!

Start from the top, descending in a circular way, get around the whole tree.

#5 Add the ornaments

I store my ornaments separately. The basic ones, just round balls of different sizes, and the ones that we all love at home. Those special ones that you have been buying once a year, the ones with pictures of your kids, or that one that was a gift.

Add first the basic balls all around, placing the smallest ones on the narrow top of the tree, the middle size ones around the middle and the big ones on the bottom (do not place any at the very bottom)

After all the basic ones are placed, get your loved ones! If you don't have any, don't worry, in a matter of time, you'll find yourself with some special ornaments that will have some kind of history in your hands.

Then, place the special ones all around, setting the ones that you like more from the middle to eye level.

#6 Top the tree

There is no better way to top off the tree than with a tree topper.

Also, at my home at least, it is the favorite and most special ornament to place!

#7 Finish it with a tree skirt

Last step! In order to cover the base, you can add a tree skirt.

These are usually a round piece of fabric, or rattan or metal collar.

You can even lay a simple bed sheet or linen around the base, and it will do the trick!

With love, and wishing you to enjoy the best holiday of the year!
