Do you LOVE your bathroom?
If your first thought is 'meh..' and now you are comparing your uninspiring space with those Instagram-worthy marble bathrooms, I have great news for you: any bathroom can be refreshed with just accessories.
Yes, yours too!
How to decorate a bathroom?
Since bathrooms are usually small rooms, all decor items have a big impact.
Also, unless you can afford a renovation, you will have to take into consideration your bathroom's own character (given by the tile color and all fixtures).
Why is this important? The secret for a designed bathroom is contrast.
If your bathroom has dark colored walls, try to brighten it up with light textiles (towels, shower curtain, or a bath rug).
If, like in my case, your bathroom is all beige with almond and biscuit fixtures (seriously, who was this monster?), you need to add the contrast with, for example, dark wood or black accessories.

Now that you know the trick, think about the accessories you can add.
I always try to go for the inexpensive option, but I can guarantee you that, if you invest a little more in each item, it will make a difference.
Small details: a cotton shower curtain vs a polyester one from IKEA, black and cream Turkish towels vs a solid neutral colored towel + matching rug, framed art, and a plant!
Let's break down all these next-level accessories, and get started!
We independently select these products—if you buy from one of the links in this article, we may earn a commission.
Turkish Towels
These are amazing if you are looking for 'quick dry' towels. Also, they have the most beautiful designs and are very soft. But, they are not the most absorbent ones. To me, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.
Shampoo Dispensers
No accessory is trivial and I have proof. Take a look at this bath corner before and after:
Shower Curtains
Shower curtains take up a large amount of visual space in your bathroom, so they will have a big impact on the overall feeling. They would play the same role as a comforter in a bedroom.
Bath Mats
Plain cotton rugs are usually more stylish than regular bath mats. Just make sure you can throw it in the washing machine.
Modern Hooks
Don't mind your faucet color! You can add some fun with out-of-the-ordinary hooks.
Art and Plants
If you take only one piece of advice from this post, please don't fall into the trap of using funny lettering signs to decorate your bathroom. Get instead some modern or classic art, depending on your bathroom style.
Small or big plants -if you have space- break up lines and add a pop of color and movement.
Sparkle
Last but not least, a sparkling bathroom -even if it's outdated- is without a doubt easier to embrace and more welcoming.
